Large directory with a nice submission system. Search works very well as they seem to crawl pages. Go to the page in the directory you wish to be listed on and submit. Nice feature links keywords you choose to your site listings in other categories.

"Buzzle Chapters or Web directory is a free internet directory with categorized web sites containing related articles and web links". Add site-category page. Lots of information and articles listed. Non/not for profit-Gov't sites get free premium listing

Only accepts sites that are interactive and provide the user with an online activity, sites where you can 'do' things, not just read about them. Is definitely a must if you meet criteria. Registering as member and linking to the site gets extra benefits.

International hybrid (SE/Directory) directory edited by volunteers. Ranking of sites is by the opinions of the volunteer editors based on a set of criteria which include, presentation, usability information provided. Indexed by SE and passes PR.

"Clickey is the Internet's first search engine and domain directory populated exclusively with top-level domain names." Hybrid directory and results are ordered randomly. Search can be local, state or country.

Results seem to be ordered randomly. General directory with a number of topics. Not pretty but has lots of listings.

Add link from category this link is at the top of the page. You can also submit to several other crawler engines from this submission form. Does not pass PR links go through a script. Results ordered alphanumerically 50/page.

Not a lot of categories or listings. Seems to have far more informational sites than ecommerce sites. Link back to site for quicker review.

Many categories have very few listing. There are a number of options for users to filter results.

This International directory is human reviewed to ensure only quality sites are added. Results sorted by the reviewers rating. Websavvy at this writing is about to syndicate the index to smaller directories for extended reach. IMO, another up and comer!

No reviews and submission is free. Results seem to be listed randomly. Hybrid directory/SE with titles and descriptions coming from the corresponding tags in the pages HTML.

Not too pretty to look at but it does have lots of listings and categories. Lots of luck figuring out the category to submit to.;) Results are ordered randomly. Other seems to be a catch all category.

Comprehensive directory and resource site. Use "Add your site to this category" link from the topic page. Users can rate sites. Paid link: on an annual basis in the future they were "one time fee" at time of review. Links added to description -pass PR?

Site thumbnail in results if add banner/link to your site. Well laid out with good traffic according to Alexa stats. Links through script no PR passed. Nice features like top sites etc. in left menu.

Submit from the page you wish to be listed on. International directory with several topics that are drill down in style. PR passed should be good as many categories have only a few listings.

Counter on home page is at over 1,000,000! Could possibly drive some good traffic. Not pretty however it is a comprehensive directory of quality sites for the categories listed. Results seem randomly ordered. Submission by email.

"Identify the best category for your site and the most specific location. Clic [Add url]". Using the ODP dump to back fill the directory it doesn't seem to have many of its own listings. I must say I don't like almost every click opening a new window!

Calls itself an active directory. This means site owners maintain listings. Must receive 1 vote/mo. to remain active. Adult sites are permitted. Many topics with quite a few listings. Links pass through script so no PR is passed.

Edited by volunteer editors. Stresses quality not quantity. International directory with quite a few topics and not many listings. Results may be ordered randomly it wasn't clearly evident what was the basis for order. Must be an editor to submit sites.

Submit from the category page the link is at the bottom of the page. Nothing spectacular here it passes no PR because the links go through a script!

General web directory of "the Best sites". Guidelines specify no pop-ups or brochure sites (can be added to the business directory). Design and quality of content are considered in review. Submit form is at the bottom of the page.

Is Indexed by SE and passes PR. $63 yearly for enhanced listing and top of results ranking guarantee to only 5 sites/topic. Human reviewed free listing is tough to get. Up to 200 characters for keyword terms.

New entry from submission to SeoPros.org. Using the same software that many of the sites with warnings are using. Not to say it's the software but... perhaps there are some defaults they might want to address. ;-)

Well designed attractive directory. PR is not passed. Submit from topic using "Add Url" link. Add Url is beside the right margin/menu above the first listing. Directory is smallish however most topics seem to have some listings.

Add URL is only available at the regional level in the directory. Has a number of regional directory indexes. Sponsored listing gets extra prominence in the category for $20. Although you'd think it's a niche directory it seems to take all submissions.

Non commercial sites may use the express review option. Although it has a high PR it doesn't seem to have a lot of listings. Results ordered alphanumerically.

Niche Directories

Regional family oriented niche directory of Washington DC and area community sites. This site does get indexed however PR doesn't seem to be passed to linking sites. Fee may be paid in leiu of link to site.

One of the major business directories for Canada. Several paid listing enhancements are available. Although indexed this site passes no PR due to the links going through an ad tracking program. Still not a bad idea to be included in it.
3. Jayde PR:7      PR Passed:False   Free:False
B2B directory of products and services. Primarily business and financial sites. Indexed by SE however PR may not be passed due to site structure. Complex submission that results in many targeted links to specific areas of a site.
4. WebmastersChannel.com PR:6      PR Passed:False   Free:False
Directory of webmaster resources, online marketing and hosting. Users rate sites and results are ordered by ratings then randomly. Doesn't pass PR due to linking through script.
5. NauticFriend.com PR:6      PR Passed:False   Free:False
Find category and click the submit site link. Lists only water related sites. Banner added to listing for linking back to site. Indexed by SE but doesn't pass PR likely due to link passing through a script.
6. Patient UK PR:6      PR Passed:True   Free:True
Excellent UK directory containing sites focusing on health isssues, diseases and related topics. Every entry is reviewed by one doctors. Found some US sites listed in the directory. Indexed by SE and passes PR.
7. Family Friendly Sites PR:6      PR Passed:True   Free:True
Site has strict criteria (the list is long check the guidelines!) for content on the site and all sites linked to! Indexed by SE but passes no PR due to link through script. Advantage of required link is display of their emblem as a family friendly site.
8. Bizweb PR:6      PR Passed:True   Free:True
Very detailed submission form! Have a list of keywords ready for the submission. This directory is large with over 40,000 sites and a lot of categories. Results are sorted alphanumerically.
9. PsychNet-UK PR:6      PR Passed:True   Free:True
Only accepts mental health and related sites. Comprehensive directory on the subject. Results are sorted alphanumerically.
10. Berit's Best PR:6      PR Passed:True   Free:True
Small directory edited by the owner. Results ordered by editor rating. Although there is no mention of no commercial sites there were few if any found. Informational sites seem the main focus of the directory.
11. B2B Today PR:6      PR Passed:True   Free:True
Good luck finding the "Submit your site" link! Submission under Sort By at the end of the results- doesn't seem to be there unless you start from the sitemap link in the add url page!
12. Genius Find PR:6      PR Passed:True   Free:True
"Any large, specialized, searchable database on any topic. This is mainly what we want on Geniusfind. Give us one of these, and it will probably be included". Note submission was down at time of review!" No categories required they choose.

Note the privacy policy states you will receive offers of products and services. Basically it looks like they are selling the information collected in the sign up form! May be worth a little UCE this is a well known company. You can buy PPC as well.

UK-focussed or useful for the UK public going abroad. Free or paid reviews(£25-50)this human edited directory boasts over 1,000,000 impressions and 300,000 unique visitors/mo. Indexed by Google and other SE. Free listings expect 60 day wait.

"All pages submitted must be PICS labeled with either ICRA or SafeSurf, either individually or at the server level." Interesting use of an HTTP meta tag. Submission is verified if email address matches the domain. PICS Label- crawler verified-Guidelines!

Claims to be largest family safe directory. Strict guidelines and paid human reviewers provide an extensive directory of quality family safe sites. Results are ordered alphanumerically with sopnsors at the the top of the category.

Travel directory that orders results randomly. Neat feature is a thumbnail of the site beside listing. Membership option which enables updating the listing at any time.

Sites ordered alphanumerically. It is your guess as to how you submit a site! SpecialistWeb Network runs a number of directories all of which are crosslinked.
23. Books Music Video PR:4      PR Passed:False   Free:False
Niche directory for books, music and videos. Users can rate sites which affect rankings. Listings include site profile. Indexed by SE. Source said it doesn't pass PR, it may from the listings. Definitely won't from profile-links through a script.
24. Dmole Directory PR:4      PR Passed:True   Free:True
Submit from the page you want to be listed on. Directory of directories excellent for finding niche directories. There are not a lot of listings but those that we did take a quick look at seemed to have been reviewed for quality.
25. Top Websites Online PR:4      PR Passed:True   Free:True
Outside the US you can email the listing. Not many listings. It mentions a paid option but where that information is isn't linked to so the reviewer couldn't find it. Lots of info required for mebership.

"BusinessSeek.biz is a categorised business directory and search engine featuring business-to-business resources to help you make the right business decisions." Search directory by company, product/services. Results ordered alphanumerically.
27. Linkism Art Directory PR:3      PR Passed:True   Free:True
Direcory for artists with a drill down topics design. There is a webmaster resources category not included in the drill down directory which are deemed useful to artists. All were SEO related:)
28. BestCatalog.net PR:3      PR Passed:True   Free:True
This is a well designed human edited directory with lots of quality sites in the results. Lots of extras including user ratings and reviews. Results ordered by users ratings. Use "List Site" link in top menu for submission.
29. Proudly Canadian PR:3      PR Passed:True   Free:True
Nicely designed website. The express review receives a boost in ranking. After one yr. listing remains in directory but gets no boost.
30. All the Bizz PR:2      PR Passed:True   Free:True
Directory has six country specific indexes. Seems to be new with not many listings. Express review within 2 days standard lead time is six weeks. Sponsored listing is $20 and is shown prominently in a category of your choice.

"This is a "Free Stuff" directory, so please submit only sites that offer free products, services, and/or resources". Find your caregory and remember it because you'll need it for the submission. Randomly ordered results.

Nice layout however there are several empty topics. Uses a meta search as well as directory from search box. PR passes nicely between home page and internal directory pages. What's new shows lots of listings so... empty topics may not always be a problem

Started in 1994 it seeks to list the best sites on the web. The directory features a large number of topics. Review fee is non refundable. $50 for adult sites. Results ordered by sponsors then alphabetical listings. The site is indexed by SE.
4. WhatUSeek PR:6      PR Passed:True   
Uses the DMOZ dump and augments that with it's own listings which appear first in the results. Two review options are Velocity - two day lead time and Standard - 8 weeks with set up fees of $50 and $25 respectively. Indexed by SE and passes PR.
5. GoGuides PR:5      PR Passed:True   
When InfoSeek was sold to Disney GoGuides was formed by the volunteer editors of the directory. Experienced editors from this group are also the driving force behind some other up and coming directories. Submit from the topic page.

An international directory that started when volunteer editors from GoGuides left and created their own directory. Separate indexes of Russian, Norwegian and Spanish sites - in their native languages. Indexed by Google and other SE's.

Nicely designed directory. Web Beacon is a fairly new directory so many of the categories are empty. I see this one as an up and comer if it can get more listings and maintain a speedy load!
8. SunSteam Search PR:5      PR Passed:True   
Directory of over 50,000 sites. Premium ($75 one time fee) program never expires, guarantees top 3 ranking in a category and 3 deep links from description. Plus program ($45 one time fee) guaranteed first page placement. Indexed by SE does pass PR.
9. Galaxy PR:4      PR Passed:True   
"Launched in January of 1994, Galaxy was the Internet's first searchable directory." Results ordered by sponsorship then user ratings. One of the first sites this reviewer submitted to! 2 other fee programs which enhance placement.
10. BlueFind PR:4      PR Passed:True   
Well planned general directory with many regional indexes. Widely promoted as of October 2004. Recently sold but the new management has indicated the advertising of the directory will continue. Allows both deep and site entry page links.

You do not have to submit from the category page but write it down because they do give you a dropdown to choose from. The website services being sold by the owner are front and center with directory categories in left menu. Users are second to services?
12. ThisIsOurYear PR:3      PR Passed:True   
Nicely designed directory with a broad range of topics and site profile pages. Does currently have a submission porogram where 10th submission is free. Free submission for an exchange of links of equal value.
13. LinkoPedia.com PR:3      PR Passed:True   
Nicely designed directory with a large number of categories. Review fees are non refundable however the guidelines provide good guidance. 24-48 hr. turn around and notification of acceptance is sent. Includes links in what's new section!
14. CannyLink PR:3      PR Passed:True   
Stated goals are to provide links that not only work but provide relevant results. Promotion packages on the site provide extra links in the directory and inclusion programs some of which are no longer available!

Human edited directory of quality sites with unique content. Advanced search has regional capability. There is another paid option that receives premium ranking that expires after 1 yr and costs $145.

Large directory of categorized business sites. Part of Microsofts bCentral promotion program. Listing includes a profile page with the ability to add 8 links to products and services. Indexed by some SE and possibly a feed into the new MSN engine.
2. Business.com PR:7      PR Passed:False   
One of the oldest niche business directories. Listings are ordered with PPC first followed by alphabetized listings of mainly business and financial sites. Reviewer has seen mixed comments about this program in forums. Negative reviews are PPC related.
3. Ohio Business PR:4      PR Passed:False   
Submit from the page you wish to be listed on using the Suggest a site link in the red cell at the top. Only Ohio companies, organizations, communities, and educational entities. Enhanced listing fees are based on your number of employees. Passes no PR.
4. Global Business Listings PR:4      PR Passed:True   
Features a profile page with your logo and full contact info. Easy to navigate is the best feature of this topic specific directory. An overview of each industry is included on the category page. Results ordered alphanumerically - updated twice daily.
